I was blessed last week (June 22-24, 2017) to go to the Blogher17 Conference put on by SheKnows media and I am seriously wondering why I have not made an effort to go before now. It took place at the Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort in beautiful Orlando, Florida, although I stayed off site at a significantly cheaper hotel. Because you know I have to save these coins for my adoptions and our upcoming move to Uganda.
I learned a ton! My favorite session was “Travel The World Right Now, Regardless Of Your Circumstances.” This session featured speakers: Stephanie Flor (Around The World Beauty), Natasha Nicholes (Houseful of Nicholes), & Oneika Raymond (Oneika The Traveller). I have been reading Oneika’s blog for a few months, so it was great to hear her speak in person.
I learned many travel tips and tricks that I plan to put in place right away. Namely, the Roadside America app, which is a guide to uniquely odd tourist attractions. And the best part is most of them are free! Since we are planning to move soon we are sticking close to home this summer. I plan to use some of Roadside America’s suggestion for our Summer 2017 Staycation.
Other sessions I enjoyed included:
- Best Practices For Creating Multiple Income Streams – Speakers included:Lain Ehmann, Arsha Jones, e-commerce empire builder’ mentor at BuildBrandSell.com, Lorraine C. Ladish, author and midlife content creator at Viva Fifty!; and Kathy Cano Murillo, founder of CraftyChica.com.
- Intimate Writing: How to Balance Your Private and Public Personas – Speakers included: Quiana Agbai, August McLaughlin, and Shireen Mitchell, social entrepreneur and Founder of Stop Online Violence Against Women
I met so many wonderful people, but the highlight of my experience was meeting one of my favorite content creators Luvvie Ajayi, of the blog Awesomely Luvvie. Her, along with the G.O.A.T., Serena Williams were the keynote speakers for our Friday lunch session. If you’d like to see the replay of that please visit my facebook page.
I tried my best not to fangirl to hard over Luvvie, but as you can tell from the featured blog post photo, I wasn’t too successful. Meeting Luvvie, after watching her “glow up’ over the last few years to the status she is right now was down right magical! I hope to God she rubbed some of that #blackgirlmagic off on me! Now I just have to meet Issa Rae and life will be complete..lol
I even got to see a pre-screening of the movie Girls Trip starring Jada Pinkett-Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, and Tiffany Haddish. But I especially loved seeing my boo Kofi Siriboe and was pleasantly surprise to see my longtime crush Larenz Tate in the movie. Girls Trip was waayyyy better than I thought it was going to be. The trailer seriously did this movie no justice. Please go out and see it on July 21. You will be glad that you did!
Overall, I’m incredibly sad that it is all over… I had a blast! I wish I could be around this kind of energy everyday. I miss this life!!! Being there reminded me of my music industry days, and all that I used to do, and the all the places I used to go.
I got a lot of new writing opportunities and a possible sponsorship too! I even got over my Introvert Problems and by the 3rd day I was killing it (in my own mind anyway..lol)
I can’t wait for next year’s conference and I am excited about all that is in store in the near future.
All I can say is See You Soon world!
